Who is Veterinary Anesthesiologist?
Veterinary anesthesiologists are veterinarians, who have completed a 3-year residency program in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia at a facility approved by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA, founded in 1975) and have successfully passed the board-certificate examination. Veterinary anesthesiologists strive to improve veterinary anesthesia and analgesia in the world.
As of 2019, there are over 300 Board Certified Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia in the world. (For comparison, there are over 2000 Board Certified Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.) Although there are some variations in experiences among veterinary anesthesiologists, they can provide anesthesia and analgesia for animals regardless of the species. Veterinary anesthesiologists also contribute in education and research in the field.
